Ok, so summers almost over.

The fella’s and I are planning on another brew festival and geek-a-thon. Thats beer and games to you layman. As you were.

Anyways, I have another peice to throw into my gallery, and since I’m going to be putting alot more of my work to show to you, the public, Im going to have to figure out a better way to display them in a gallery. Without further yakking, I give you, a fish amongst the wolves. Or something.

Its been much too long for and update don’t you think?

I’ve been working on a relaunch of the Ascension Games website. A large task, to be sure. Anyways. heres a new screenshot of the female ninja I’ve been working on. Some details of what youre looking at follow below, or click on the image to be taken to the portfolio page.

This is a viewport screencapture from 3d Studio Max 9. The’ve done some nice cleaning up of the interface for directx shaders in the viewport, and this is my exploration of those updates. This shader uses 3 maps in a multipass technique for producing skin like qualities on your mesh. It uses a Diffuse Map, Normal Map, Specular Map, and Fresnel effect to achieve this effect. There’s a shader in the FX folder of your 3d Studio installation called ‘StandardFX.fx’, this shader has all the basic shader parameter an artist can use to create custom, tweakable shaders right there in the max viewport. When you have tweaked each parameter to your liking, can then save your new material as an FX file, and hand that to a programmer for integration into a game engine. of course, its a little more complex than that, and Ill cover that soon, in another blog.

My first night seriously using zbrush3, and all I have to say is - whoa. Pretty fun using the program, and I have to say, Im having a hard time choosing between it, and Mudbox. Check out my portfolio page for the new content, I anticipate taking this all the way to texture in zbrush3, and if I get lucky, some animation work for my thirsty portfolio.

Work In Progress

This uses the new feature in zbrush3 called “subtools” which acts like a layer in Photoshop, but its not exactly what it seems. I have to be a bit vague here as I still dont fully comprehend whats going on. If you are waiting to try out the zbrush 3 release, wait no more.
